The Search for The Secret Door
Today, we reminded grandpa of the unfinished ‘Secret Door’ story. He promised to conclude the story the following day.
“We must find the door before tomorrow” I told my cousins.
So, we decided to play the ‘detectives.’ After dinner that evening, we all sneaked downstairs in search of the secret door.
“We must surprise Grandpa by discovering the secret door on our own.” I said to my cousins.
“That is right, and I am sure Grandpa will be very proud of us.” Dubem said.
“The door must be somewhere in this house, did you ask your mummy?” Kansi asked me.
“Of course, I did, but she would not tell.” I replied.
“They will not tell! Adults like to keep secrets, but we will surprise them.” boasted Goziem.
We were busy opening each door until we got to a particular door that was locked. We looked at each other with satisfaction that we have finally discovered the door.
“Yes! Yes! Yes! This is it!” I shouted.

Akunna and the Lost King
In the evil forest where the baby was thrown into, a hunter from a neighboring village who had gone to hunt for bush meat saw the wrapped baby and took the baby home. The man lived with his wife, and they had no child of their own. They were very happy and said that the gods of their land had sent them a child. They took very good care of the baby, and he grew into a big boy.
Over a period of time the king became very sick and all the native doctors in the village could not cure him, so he died. After his death strange things began to happen in the village. The villagers fell sick one after the other, there was barely a compound without a sick person. The chiefs then decided to visit their chief priest.
When they got there, the chief priest consulted the oracle.
“The gods are angry!” said the chief priest shaking his head.
“What did they say the problem is?” The chiefs asked simultaneously.
“The heir to the throne must come back and take over his father’s throne” the priest said.
“But great one, the gods have not told us who the new king will be? And we all know that our last king did not have a son” said one of the chiefs.
“The gods do not lie! They said our king is in the land of Olum and we must act fast or else the wrath of the gods will fall heavily on this land” the chief priest said.
“What do we do, great one?” they asked……Read More

Omasili and The Mysterious Goat
When Omasili got back, she went to the goat and apologised for coming back late to prepare food for the goat. By the time she got to the place where she kept her foodstuffs, she realised that the things where not the same way she left them when she was leaving that morning. She went to her father and asked if anybody came into her room while she was away.
“Why don’t you ask that mysterious goat you brought into this house?” her father replied.
“Father, I know that you have always disliked this goat right from the day I decided to bring her into this house. But it should not get to the extent of you accusing it of such an act. It is only a goat.” she defended.
“My daughter, our people say that ‘what an old man sees sitting down, a child cannot see standing up’.
“What do you mean, father?” she asked.
“Omasili, I heard your goat singing and dancing in your room”.
“There you go again, father!” She said, laughing. “How can a mere goat do all these things you are accusing it of? I am sure somebody sneaked in while you were sleeping.’……Read More
